Day 31

Well here we are!
It's hard to believe we're at the end of the month already.

My final tip is not a picture, but some pretty wonderful sorting advice I read on Houzz.com.  I hope you will be able to use this as well as a few of the ideas from the past month to help make your life a little more peaceful.
Thanks for reading along this past 31 Days!

Know the two ways to sort. There are certainly other ways to sort your belongings, but these two ways are simple and effective.
  • Like with like. A family member of mine sorts her kitchen tools into two drawers: “scoopy-stirry” (spoons, ladles etc.) and “cutty-pokey” (knives, vegetable peelers etc.). Sounds a little silly, but it works, and once you know where these drawers are, you can quite easily find what you need, even if you are not familiar with her kitchen. Other like-with-like categories might include tools, paper goods, and electronics and power cords.
  • Complete a task. The second way of sorting is to corral everything you need to complete a task from start to finish. In one drawer in my home, for instance, I have envelopes, stamps, pens, checks and an address book. You might want a drawer near the front door to keep your keys, wallet, cell phone, sunglasses and other personal items.

Day 30

I love this idea for a t.v. stand!

House and Home June 2012
So original!!

Day 29

Do you save the buttons that come as extras on new clothes?
I do.  Yep.  Throw em right in with ALL my other buttons.

Style at Home March 2011
How smart to use a little business card binder to store them and label where they came from.

Day 28

This seems like a great way to train the kids to sort the laundry pre wash!

House and Home Spring 2010
We might not all have the space for so many categories
but even a light and dark basket would be nice!

Day 27

The Ikea Bekvam spice rack is another item way up on the wonderful list.

Use it to organize books.

Or to hold art supplies.

At $6.99 you can't go wrong.

Day 26

At first I was going to write about the cool shot at the bottom of the framed in microwave that flips up to reveal hidden storage.
But then that little drawer inside the big drawer is pretty cool too!

Style at Home October 2014
And how about the butterfly pullout at the top which it says is "like a more ergonomic Lazy Susan". Triple cool!

Day 25

This tackle box appealed to me because I love the fishy theme, but any tool box would do.

Country Living June 2010
What a wonderful idea to keep your desk essentials in a
box that can close up and leave you with instant tidy!

Day 24

How many houses have those unattractive slidy closet doors?
Or worse.  Mirrored ones.

Home Depot
Grab a roll of wallpaper and give yourself an update without the cost of replacing the doors.

Day 23

Wondering how to store your ribbon?

Style at Home March 2011
 A plate and a stick.
Nice.
And as an added bonus - below it is a suggestion to keep all your owners manuals in a binder inside clear plastic pockets.
Double nice.

Day 22

There is true wonder in the ability to take something really unattractive and make it beautiful.

Better Homes and Gardens Spring 2010

Look at that ugly old microwave cart before!
You don't have to like the choice of wallpaper or colours, but you have to admit that turning something that was destined for the dump into something useful and lovely is really wonderful.

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Day 21

I really like this laundry rack.

House and Home April 2010

Totally out of the way when you don't need it.
Really easy to grab when you do!

Monday, October 20, 2014

Day 20

Martha Stewart storage boxes are high on my list of wonderful.

They come in lots of colours, they have a spot for a label, the trim and handle look sharp, they are $7.77 at Home Depot and most importantly, they FIT so snugly in nearly every shelf.  I love that you can't see any mess INSIDE the bin.

Sunday, October 19, 2014

Day 19

If heels are your thing, here's a pretty way to display them!

Style at Home March 2012
Maybe a weekend project to work on?!

Saturday, October 18, 2014

Day 18

I've always thought using paint trays to hold files was a great idea.

Better Homes and Gardens Spring 2010
You can stack em on your desk or hang them on a ladder.

Friday, October 17, 2014

Day 17

Electrical cords are a pet peeve of mine.

House and Home September 2012
But not this guy.
Wrap an unsightly cord with coloured duct tape!

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Day 16

Isn't this a great use for old tea tins?

House and Home April 2012

Tea is so "in" right now and the new tins are quite attractive too!
Happy planting.

Day 15

I can admit it's not the prettiest.
But I LOVE it.

It is the Godmorgon box with compartments from Ikea.
When I'm in a hurry as I am each morning trying to get myself and 4 kids into the van, I know exactly where every single thing I need will be.
Now that's wonderful.

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Day 14

There are lots of things you can do with an old drawer but I thought this idea was pretty fun.

Country Living May 2012

Bigger drawer?
Bigger drink station!

Monday, October 13, 2014

Day 13

My friend Kristin used her old floor vents as file holders.

I love this!!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Sunday, October 12, 2014

Day 12

So often I see a purse I think is truly beautiful, so why not use them as art?

House and Home February 2010

Pretty and organized.
You know how I feel about that!

Saturday, October 11, 2014

Day 11

 Seriously?
If I were renovating my kitchen I'd be having one of these!

House and Home March 2011

It's a kickplate drawer and I think it's kinda wonderful.

Friday, October 10, 2014

Day 10

Covering half of this open shelving with a message board creates a space to hide less pretty items as well as a spot to record lists.

Country Living September 2014

What a wonderful idea!

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Day 9

Here's a great tip I read on houzz.com.
How many of us save those spare pieces from projects or ikea furniture or whatever?
From my experience I can tell you that lots of us do.
And how many of us label them??

Um...nobody.
Including me.
But how easy is it to write a quick sharpie note on the ziploc
so you know why you kept the extras in the first place?

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Day 8

Here's a pretty way to bring some art to your wall.

Style at Home October 2014

This is actually just one oversized print, chopped up to fit a number of thrifted frames which were painted all one colour.  I think the final result looks fantastic.

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Day 7

So often you come across a room, especially in an old house like mine, that has no closet.

Country Living May 2014

This mirror from Ikea is such a smart way to give yourself or perhaps your guests a little space for things that hang.  And what's most wonderful is the price. Completely affordable at $39.99!

I know, I know!  I promised one photo only.
But I had to show you the hooks on the back!!

Monday, October 6, 2014

Day 6

Who knew this little hangy shelf would be so handy!?

At first glance it doesn't seem that spectacular, but what I love is that it is not very deep, so the small boxes of snack and sandwich size ziplocs do not get accidentally shoved to the back of the cupboard where they then get lost and are hard to reach.
It's available from Home Outfitters.
Seriously handy.

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Day 5

So often I'd love to hang a plant but it's really hard to find an attractive way to do that these days.

Style at Home August 2014

It's string.  And knots.
Now that's wonderful!
And I bet we could each go whip one up right now!

Saturday, October 4, 2014

Day 4

I love this tucked away paper towel roll!
(number 5)
They're always in the way hanging under a cupboard or taking up space standing on the counter.

Country Living September 2014
 What a perfect location.
It would take a little work but a handy hubby could do it.

Friday, October 3, 2014

Day 3

Ladders get used in all sorts of fun ways but I hadn't seen this before.

House and Home September 2014
Using the S hooks to hang pots, measuring cups, cutting boards...really anything that you'd like to keep handy is such a great idea!
And cute too.

Thursday, October 2, 2014

Day 2

If you don't have one of these below your sink, you may be able to add one.

Martin Interiors

If you do have one, are you storing your "uglies" for dishwashing there?
Brilliant!

Welcome to One Hit Wonderful!

Here it is.
You're all busy.
There are thousands of other blogs linked to
31 Days through The Nester this month that you might like to read.
So I'm making it my job to give you something really practical, really fast.

That's what you're gonna find here for the month of October.
One wonderful photo per day.
One wonderful idea each day of October, many of which you will be able to use in your own home to make your life a little more pretty and a bit more organized.
One Hit Wonderful.

If you are visiting for the first time, please scroll down to find Day 1.
Otherwise, find the current post below.

Day 1
Squeezy curtain rods (tension rods)
are being used to keep cutting boards, cookie sheets and platters
 nicely divided and standing straight.

Good Housekeeping June 2013

And as an added bonus for visiting my 31 Day posts on Day 1, an extra tip as noted above:
"I also use a tension rod to maximize the cabinet space beneath my kitchen sink.  Just hang the rod horizontally several inches below the sink (in front of the plumbing), then suspend bottles of household cleanser from it by their spray nozzles.  It works in the bathroom too!"

WONDERFUL!
